Ocelot | Our Time

It’s Ocelot, mtherfckrs! I probably lose some of my metal-scene points for this one, but I really dig these guy(s). So much so that I’m even letting the Footloose video for “Our Time” below slide. I know someone that adores Kevin Bacon but to me he’s basically Katherine Hepburn waiting to happen.

Ocelot’s myspace page sums them up pretty well; “All the fun of trance without all that trance.” They’re a bunch of sub-6:00 minute songs, many of which veer dangerously close to the sweaty hell of straight up house music but are luckily counter-balanced with some ear-bleeding and distorted grungey-trance.

Here’s the thing about this kind of music. The video and songs below fit perfectly into your workout playlist on your little iPod there. The songs are super catchty and the beat will keep you moving, but to really appreciate what’s going on here you need to go see Ocelot spin. There’s a certain magic that happens when the high decibel-level, the smell produced by heat and booze, and flashing lights that makes what Ocelot does transcend boring old electronic music. So cut your teeth on the below tracks and then keep your eye glued to IHeartComix for when his new album drops.
